Amstrad to produce multi-TV Sky box

Amstrad and BSkyB are to produce a pioneering set-top box that will link every television in the home, and let viewers record and play back two different programmes on separate TV sets simultaneously.

The box, which is already under development and due to launch next year, will be the first new product for the pair following Sky’s decision to take Amstrad’s expertise in-house by buying the company.

Amstrad boss Sir Alan Sugar announced last Tuesday that he had sold his 40-year-old company for £125m to Sky, which accounts for 75pc of its sales.

Prices for the new box have not been set, but will be in line with Sky’s existing high-end products. Boxes with a digital video recorder, know as Sky+, cost £99, and high-definition Sky recorders cost £299.
