10 hour Fasthost outage costs businesses
The UK’s largest providers of web hosting have left thousands of clients upset with their poor service after web hosting provider Fasthosts suffered a 10 hour outage today
The Fasthosts website claims ‘We host more websites than anyone else’ yet this statistic is of little comfort to the thousands of businesses that have suffered loss of email services and web sites over the last 10 hours. Further more, businesses are upset in terms of the thousands of pounds of lost business from ecommerce sites.
Apparently a Blueyonder broken fiber optic cable caused the outage and it was reported that all the south east of england that use that provider had no internet.
The biggest concern this issue has raised is the service levels quoted on the Fasthosts website.
“Thanks to our multiple redundant connections to the internet, Fasthosts are so confident that your server will experience the highest levels of up-time…”
It appears the redundant connections go via a single point of failure.
Net4Now, who currently host with Fasthosts, was impacted by the outage.
