Nominet grows to meet global ambitions

Emily Taylor, Director of Legal and Policy at Nominet, the .uk domain name registry, has been appointed by the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Anan, to serve on the Advisory Group for the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).

The IGF Advisory Group brings together 46 individuals representing government, private sector, academia and civil society, who represent all regions of the world, to assist the Secretary General in convening the forum. Nominet plays a key role in international Internet governance and policy debate, and is often cited as an example of best-practice for Internet registry services worldwide.

The Internet Governance Forum was established by the recent World Summit on the Information Society, to provide a space for multi-stakeholder dialogue on Internet Governance.

“I am honoured to be invited to join the Advisory Group. The Internet Governance Forum is a welcome opportunity to improve dialogue between members of the global Internet community, and hopefully to improve understanding of the issues,” said Emily Taylor, Director of Legal and Policy at Nominet. “Co-operation is key and, as the world’s fourth largest Internet registry, Nominet actively participates in dialogue on international Internet governance.”

The first meeting of the Advisory Group will take place on 22-23 May 2006 in preparation for the inaugural meeting of the IGF in Athens, from 30 October – 2 November 2006. A consultation is currently in progress on the IGF website (http://www.intgovforum.org/), inviting contributions to the first meeting agenda from organisations involved in Internet activities and international governments.
