Locate your child the same way they locate terrorists

The same technology that enabled Italian police track down the whereabouts of one of the suspects in the recent London bombings is being used by increasing numbers of parents as a way to check the location of their children.

Mobile phone technology offered by ChildLocate, the leading mobile location provider in the UK, allows parents instantly and unobtrusively to pinpoint the whereabouts of their children, using co-ordinates generated by the actual signal that enables a mobile to ‘lock on’ to a network operator’s phone mast. The system uses co-ordinates from several masts to ‘triangulate’
the position of a user’s mobile phone – exactly the same technique that police in Rome used to locate and arrest terrorist suspect Osman Hussain.

The ChildLocate service has just been updated, and now boasts vastly improved precision, with Vodafone users enjoying the ability to locate mobile phones to an accuracy of between 300 and 500 metres. ChildLocate can also determine the child’s last position even if their phone is switched off depending on the mobile network used. The service can be used for mobile phones using the Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and O2 networks.

ChildLocate is a passive service that enables parents to check on their child’s whereabouts, without having to rely on their children using or answering the phone. While the phone is switched on, the parent can receive up to date location information, either on a map on their PC or via text message on their mobile phone.

The service now features an easier to use interface, including high definition, full colour street level maps provided by Multimap. These are linked to a faster map server, reducing response times from 10 seconds down to 1 second.

The company has also invested heavily in its customer support infrastructure, implementing a new call centre that features a team of dedicated customer support representatives providing phone, email and chat support. A raft of new hardware hosts the ChildLocate database, including two new dedicated servers that offer superior stability.

ChildLocate is currently running a special offer that includes 30 days Free Trial, together with ten free location requests. Users can register up to 5 mobile handsets to the service, which is available thereafter for just £1.34 per week for a family pack of five registered mobiles. The free offer includes free connection (worth £10.00), 25 free annual locations (worth £11.20), unlimited text messages from 10p a message, and 24 x 7 X 365 days location services.

‘Parents today are working increasingly long hours, while children have become more mobile than ever before. ChildLocate is a foolproof way of checking up on your child’s whereabouts without running the risk of being intrusive. Because the service can provide immediate feedback on a child’s location, it offers instant reassurance for all parents,’ says ChildLocate Director Jon Magnusson.

‘I received my password almost instantly and was then able to enter the phone numbers of the children and family members I chose to use in the trial. One of my children was by my side as I entered his details, and I was impressed when his phone received a text message less than two minutes after entering his details on the system,’ says new ChildLocate user Julie Yates from Huddersfield.

‘With everything set up, locating the children proved to be a cinch. You receive a text message stating where they are to within a few hundred metres, and can also view a map showing their location. My father pointed out to me that I could zoom in and even locate where on the street the children were. Brilliant!’ explains Julie.

‘By using ChildLocate, parents are gaining all the benefits of their children owning a mobile phone, without being seen as invading their child’s privacy. This makes ChildLocate a discreet and cost effective alternative to ringing your children to check on their whereabouts,’ adds ChildLocate Director Jon Magnusson.
