LINX introduces 10 gigabit per seconf points on network

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has announced that content delivery network Limelight Networks is now able to transmit up to 10 gigabits per second (10 Gb/s) through a single point on the exchange.

LINX offers 10 Gb/s connections as an alternative to using a number of single 1 Gb/s ports. Moving to a single multi-gigabit port reduces technical complexity and the cost of exchanging Internet data for Limelight and other LINX members.

Based in the USA, Limelight has stepped up to a 10 Gb/s connection to provide an enhanced content delivery network for the Internet distribution of video, music, games and downloads. Limelight’s content delivery network meets the critical delivery requirements of many of the leading names in the media and entertainment industry for bandwidth-intensive content delivery to audiences of any size.

LINX enables Internet service providers (ISPs) and content delivery providers to exchange traffic between their networks. The process – known as ‘peering’ – allows customers of one LINX member to send and receive data from customers of other members. By exchanging traffic at LINX, Limelight ensures high-performance connectivity to end-user networks by eliminating any potential middleman bottlenecks.

Nathan Raciborski, chief network architect of Limelight Networks, said:
“Peering partners such as LINX with the insight and vision to aggressively handle 10 Gb/s Ethernet technology are very important to Limelight Networks to handle current and future growth.”

LINX sales and marketing manager Vanessa Evans said: “I am delighted Limelight Networks is now connecting at 10 Gb/s. This gives it the capability of effortlessly scaling without having to provision and manage multiple low speed circuits such as GbE or OC48s.

“We are continuing to see phenomenal growth in traffic levels at LINX and we are always searching for ways of introducing new facilities and equipment that improves our service to members, and in turn, their customers.”
