Big Brother dominates web entertainment surfing
?Big Brother? has become the third most searched-for term amongst all UK Internet searches.
With Channel 4?s sixth series of the reality TV programme approaching its conclusion, UK Internet users are seeking the latest online updates on the show in ever-increasing numbers. The most recent Hitwise Search Terms data reveals that ?big brother? is the third most searched-for term, just behind the eternally popular ?ebay? and ?argos? in the ranks of most searched-for terms online – and more frequently searched for than both ?easyjet? and ?amazon?.
These latest Hitwise Search Terms figures fly in the face of predictions that Big Brother?s sixth series may be sounding the death knell for this particular reality TV format. With even more controversial characters and big personalities in the house this season, Big Brother has continued to dominate the world of reality TV in the UK.
Hitwise market share figures on the official Big Brother website (www.channel4.com/bigbrother) have also been on the rise recently, although the site has so far failed to reach the heights of traffic levels in 2004. Currently, the Big Brother website claims 0.12% of all online traffic – just over 1 in 1,000 website visits – and is also the second most-visited Television site.
