Nominet gets new Chairman

Nominet UK, the Oxford-based domain name registry today announced the appointment of Bob Gilbert as Chairman of the company. He replaces Willie Black, the founder of Nominet, who left the company in December 2004.

Until he retired from private practice last year, Bob Gilbert was a company law specialist and Deputy Senior Partner of Wragge & Co, the Midlands based law firm. He remains a consultant to the company as well as continuing to hold a number of non-executive Chairmanships of publicly quoted companies.

He has had a long and distinguished career at Wragge & Co, joining the company in 1972 and becoming its youngest ever partner at the age of 25.
During his 33 years with the company he has been actively involved in most aspects of company and commercial law as well as new business development and acting as Liaison Partner with many City institutions.

Lesley Cowley, Chief Executive of Nominet, said: “This appointment is great news for Nominet. Finding a new Chairman with the boardroom experience and all round business expertise that Bob will bring has been quite a challenge.
But now that he is in place we are sure that Bob will make a huge contribution to driving Nominet forward and we are very pleased to welcome him to the team.”

Bob Gilbert said: “This is a rare opportunity to be involved with a successful organisation at the heart of a very dynamic and challenging industry. I look forward to realising some of the potential for growth and development that exists at Nominet and in helping to shape Nominet’s future direction and corporate ambition.

He is married with two sons and is a keen participant in historic motorsport and also chairs the Government’s Motorsport Development Board.
