Three domain names – £800 bargain?

A Net4Nowt reader, Phil Kind, has notified us of a recent approach by domain name registry firm ‘Domain.uk’ to try to encourage him to pay £800 for three domain names.

Mr Kind said “I recently received a call from ‘Domain.uk’. They told me out of the blue that ’someone’ had applied to register my brand name with .biz .net .info and that if I didn’t override there clients offer and myself register the names with them for 8 years each at a cost of £800 their client would register immidiatly.

Mr Kind continued, “No one is going to want to register .net .biz .info for my brand name and pay £800 for the privilege, its ludicrous. They told me that if I didn’t register with them then and there and give my credit card details to them their client would do so.”

Mr Kind has now registered the domains himself with another domain name provider. The three names, registered for two years each could be registered for around just £63.38.
