Nominet ease cybersquatter eviction

UK Domain registry, Nominet UK is looking to update its Domain Resolution Service with the intention of making it easier to evict cybersquatters.

Changes are to include more flexible rules to allow tribute and criticism sites. Until now it was up to the registrant to prove that their site was not an ‘abusive registration’. It is now up to the complainant tp prove that it is.

Nominet has also introduced a new class of so-called ‘Web designer’ abusive registrations where a Web designer or ISP has registered a domain name in their own name rather than their customer’s name which could effectively be used to blackmail their customers.

Nominet has set a three month time period for consultation over the proposed changes. Full details can be found at the Nominet website. Comments should be emailed to pab-feedback@nominet.org.uk with ‘DRS consultation’ in the subject line.
