Free Trade Agreement still concerning ISPs

The latest development pertaining to copyright from the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has ISPs up in arms, flailing continuously about proposed restrictions on site content. If current drafts of the FTA are approved (and thus implemented into legislation) by the Australian Government, ISPs will have to answer to the ?takedown notice regime? currently enforced in the US forcing ISPs to remove any content upon request from copyright owners regardless whether it is or is not an infringement.

Industry spokespeople are requesting a less restrictive approach to content, hopefully reflecting current Australian cultural trends. A co-regulatory approach has been called for and would be maintained by both government and relevant organisations.

As yet, the FTA does not outline how ISP would be punished for not complying with takedown restrictions.

Copyright infringing P2P file sharing has additionally not been detailed, creating further concern from ISPs observing current trials in the US. Subscribers are also in the dark as to whether their personal information would be safe from prying eyes.
