Telstra have announced their plans to implement new wireless data services in regional and rural Australia. The $31 million dollar plans are hoped to be completed by the end of this year, helping 98 per cent of Australians to access the internet.
According to the press release, Telstra?s Group Managing Director for Telstra Country Wide, Doug Campbell stated, ??the announcement was a massive leap in internet connection options for rural and regional customers, providing most with an alternate high-speed internet service.?
The new wireless infrastructure will be comprised of 1xRTT, operating on the CDMA network transferring speeds of up to 144K per second, offering access options for remote area customers whom previously could only utilise satellite technology. The planned upgrade will also provide those frustrated with dial-up accounts, high-speed access.
Such an initiative affirms Telstra?s commitment to deliver ?innovative communication services? to all Australians.
Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but Campbell believes the proven technology will feature access plans ?very attractive? to rural customers.
Metropolitan-based Australians located in some areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and the Gold-Coast currently has access to the technology and is described as a great alternative data service mostly utilised by mobile telephony.
